Paulownia tomentosa seeds

Very fast growing tree, marginally hardy here and usually dies to the ground each year.   The leaves are GIANT, can grow 10-13’ in one year!  Think Jack in the Bean Stalk.   Spectacular fragrant purple blooms.  

The genus Paulownia is in honour of the Grand Duchess Anna Pavlovna of Russia. Paulownia tormentosa it is a fast growing and hardy deciduous tree. Leaves are heart-shaped and 5 to 12 inches long, with a velvety texture.

Either you plant it and leave it to produce its fine domed shape (it can reach 40ft after 40 years) and its purple foxglove flowers (which appear before the leaves and could be mistaken for a Jacaranda Tree from a distance) OR you do the Giant Vegetable Trick.

The giant vegetable trick is the preferred method for growing this unique tree.  

Note - This tree has become a nuisance tree in the USA and considered invasive.   In our area it doesn’t become nearly as aggressive.   If using the giant vegetable trick, it is not considered invasive as it doesn’t set seed.
